A touch of light

I am fascinated by the drama of weather and light, and the effect it has on everything it touches. Photography for me is to capture the effects of light; in other words: ‘to paint with light’.

My passion for light is what inspired me to write a book that starts with the effects and use of light in photography, before moving to composition, editing tools and equipment choices.

Here a few samples from the book, each showing a different aspect of light:

Te Kouma Harbour; a still evening’s sunset

Men in a workshop with sparse light reflected by smoke, hair and machinery

Burgos cathedral in evening light

Portrait with light falling through a window

Silversmith; light accentuating effort

Hanoi; braving the rain at daybreak
