Windows and mirrors - for me the photos I take are windows through which I see as well as mirrors reflecting how I see the world around me.

I won’t be writing posts on social media but here will spend a few sentences on what’s current and soon to come:

Returning from Japan the ‘Portraits of Auckland’ books have been printed but need a period of time to dry and settle down. Please see ‘Works’ for a brief impression of the book. It shouldn’t be long now until it is ready for sale and included in the ‘Shop’.

Under ‘Works’ you’ll also find some other projects I am or have been working on; in the ‘Shop’ you’ll find details about books and selected prints for sale.

The trip to Japan was to celebrate our 30-year anniversary and taking photos was not a priority. Still, I managed to get the camera out a bit and include a few of the results on the next pages.

The streets are a riot of colours, but the stoic man is in a rush and has no time or eye for the manga shops and maid-cafes.

Although there are only around 650 professional wrestlers in Japan, Sumo wrestling is Japan’s number one sport. A brief explanation and demonstration of the sport turned me from cynic into a fan … yes I’m a convert!

While some may look a little overweight, these boys are quick. And underneath that fatty layer there is a serious amount of well-toned muscle and a massive commitment to training.

Many Japanese ‘Zen’ gardens aren’t actually that big. But their simplicity invites you to quietly sit down and contemplate for a while.

Away from the crowds, the less visited gardens were a highlight of our trip..
